On the 26th of April this year Ticket to Ride Graduate Bethany Holland will take on the challenge of running one of the most famous marathons in the world to raise money for the Makakanye School feeding project in Jeffery's Bay South Africa.
With just over two months to go Beth is training hard and is ready to meet the challenge head on.
"In 2008 I spent the most incredible 6 weeks in South Africa with Ticket to Ride. While out there we were involved in various charity projects that the Ticket to Ride Foundation are associated with. These included playing football with a local township football team that they support in Cape Town, spending time in a nursery in the same township, and cooking soup in a school in Jeffery’s Bay for 400 children, for their lunch which was to be their only meal. It was a real eye opening experience. When we were helping out with charity projects I saw how each project had been carefully assessed to see exactly how the money from the foundation could be best spent and that the most could come out of it.
As I felt I was putting a lot of my time and effort into this marathon I wanted to be sure that the money I raised was going to go directly to where it was needed and not some head office or marketing but right to the source. Having seen how ticket to ride operates, I knew my money would really have an impact on the projects it supports, and have been able to choose the exact projects that I want to help
I felt most overwhelmed when we cooked the soup in the school when I saw the reaction from the children as we dished it up. This is why I have chosen to raise money for the Makakanye School feeding project in Jeffery’s Bay."
We all here at Ticket to Ride wish Beth the best of luck and are behind her 100%. Please sponsor Beth by clicking on the foundation link and show your support.
